JEDDAH: The Jeddah Municipality organized various activities for the disabled here recently and also honored 18 citizens who won 23 medals in the Special Olympics in Los Angeles last year.
The event, held under the title “We appreciate” at a park on Sultan street, was inaugurated by Abdullah Mohammed Al-Qarni, deputy mayor, on behalf of Mayor Hani Abu Ras.
Mohammed Yami, manager of the Corporate Social Responsibility Department at Jeddah Municipality, was also present on the occasion.
Al-Qarni said the event was held as part of the ongoing activities of the municipality and its role in spreading awareness on the development of humanity and taking charitable initiatives.
The activities included a number of events like basketball, running and walking competitions.
During the prize distribution ceremony, Yami promised that the municipality will establish a facility for the people of special needs for physical activities to encourage fitness among them, so that they can participate in many more competitions locally and internationally.
Yami appreciated the municipality for organizing such events to encourage and appreciate the achievements of the disabled.
Atikkah Mulla, an activist for autism awareness, said such activities and events motivate them and also bring them closer to society.
